A Three-Part Series Exploring Outdoor Environmental Design and Green Spaces to Benefit Older Adults
Pioneer Network is proud to offer a three-part webinar series that investigates outdoor environmental design and green spaces to benefit older adults. The webinars will take place on three Tuesdays in March -- the 2nd, 9th and 16th from 1:00pm to 2:00 p.m. EST. Whether you are a Nursing Home, Assisted Living or Independent Living professional, the Creating Home-- Access to Nature Webinar Series will demonstrate the importance of having people, policies, and programs that support outdoor usage.
The series is based on a set of award-winning videos created by Susan Rodiek, Ph.D., a Professor in Health Facilities Design in the College of Architecture at Texas A&M University. With funding from the National Institute on Aging, she developed Access to Nature for Older Adults (2009), a research project and set of three educational videos that translate evidence-based principles into applicable design solutions for residential settings for older adults; this project won the 2009 "Environment & Design" Award from the nationally-based Center for Excellence in Assisted Living (CEAL).
The Creating Home -- Access to Nature Webinar Series will explore current research findings in gerontology, psychology and design, as well as comments from residents themselves, providing eldercare professionals with cost-effective guidelines for creating outdoor spaces seniors will use. The webinar series will also help attendees to avoid pitfalls, such as "invisible" barriers, which prevent easy access to outdoor features.
